Make sure that you receive the zoom lens performance you were sold and expect. This white paper explains how to properly interpret marketing product datasheets to understand the actual performance to expect and to uncover misleading performance claims.

As the demand for increased image resolution and higher optical magnification continues, there unfortunately are opportunistic firms who press the envelope in making claims that may be true in some respect, but are not true in terms of actually providing you with what you think you are getting.

Lets take a look at a common example in the industry today that has a number of manufactures marketing cameras with HD resolution and 36x optical zoom lenses. On the surface, this would appear to be better technology offering more zoom magnification as compared to an HD camera using a 30x optical zoom lens.

Summary Results for the Year Ended December 31, 2015 • GAAP net income of $474, or $0.31 per share based on 1,527 weighted average diluted shares outstanding. This compares to GAAP net income of $10,514, or $6.92 per share based on 1,520 weighted average diluted shares outstanding for the year ended December 31, 2014. The year ended December 31, 2014 included a deferred income tax benefit of $7,688. • Year-over-year revenue declined 7% due to challenges with a large customer and delayed federal transportation funding, outside of these two factors the Company’s security revenue increased 13%. • Strong market acceptance of the Company’s security network products, such as IP cameras and network video recorders, led to increased revenues of 43% for those products during 2015 compared to the prior year, increasing the Company’s overall gross profit margin percentage by 1%. • The Company reduced its indebtedness from $3,219 at December 31, 2014 to $2,389 at December 31, 2015. In particular, with the new funding in place CohuHD has experienced a particularly strong start to the year. ” Financial Results, Fourth Quarter of 2015 Compared to Fourth Quarter of 2014 Revenue for the fourth quarter of 2015 totaled $8,453, as compared to revenue of $10,492 for the fourth quarter of the prior year, a decrease of approximately 19%. The Company’s subsidiary, CohuHD, generated approximately $3,605 and $5,284 in revenue during these periods, respectively. Gross profit for the fourth quarter of 2015 totaled $3,287. This compares to gross profit of $3,993 for the fourth quarter of 2014, a decrease of 18%. The majority of the decrease was attributable to the decline in CohuHD sales. Operating expenses for the fourth quarter of 2015 totaled $3,173. This compares to operating expenses of $3,514 for the fourth quarter of 2014, a decrease of 10%. The decrease was primarily due to reductions in engineering and development and selling, general and administrative expenses as a result of lower sales volumes and incentive based awards during 2015, partially offset by a onetime sales tax catch-up liability recorded in the fourth quarter of 2015. Cohu, Inc. (NASDAQ:COHU) today announced a new video surveillance solution from its Cohu Electronics Division. The 5970SD Series is the latest addition to Cohu’s expanding family of Helios video surveillance security systems.

Cohu’s 5970SD series combines the advantages of thermal imaging, efficient H.264 compression, a variable speed positioner and advanced environment protection delivering a feature rich thermal camera positioning system. The 5970SD Series is available with uncooled VOx 320p30 or 640p30 LWIR FPA detectors and a wide selection of hard carbon coated lenses. The 5970SD Series is ideal where night vision is required such as industrial security, perimeter monitoring, port, airport, border and coastal monitoring, maritime applications and traffic solutions.

The 5970SD delivers high quality video, even in extreme conditions, such as total darkness, smoke, atmospheric haze or dust, rain, light foliage, and most types of fog. The 5970SD includes a variable hi-speed pan and tilt drive, with 360° continuous pan and ±90° tilt movements. Fast positioning speeds of up to 80°/sec, results in 180° movements in less than 2.5 seconds. Camera control functions are accomplished over IP or the RS422 serial interface. Providing dual output stream capability, the 5970SD can deliver two independently configured H.264 streams, or H.264 with MJPEG or H.264 with analog output. While delivering IP and analog outputs, the 5970SD can integrate with legacy analog based systems today while providing a smooth transition over to IP tomorrow.

The 5970SD is designed to operate in extreme weather with its IP67 and IP66 protection, eliminating the effects of water intrusion, pollutants and corrosives, and also withstands the effects of elevated temperature, electrical and mechanical environments complying with NEMA TS 2 standards.

Administrative features include configuring network settings, user password assignments, setting video streaming properties, configuring thermal imaging properties, defining camera positioning presets/tours and assigning camera ID labels.

The 5970SD Series provides integration with 3rd party Video Management Systems (VMS), adhering to industry interoperability standards for video streaming specifications and ONVIF and NTCIP 1205 configuration and control interfaces.
